DISCOVER THE BERNESE OBERLAND FROM ITS BEST SIDE!
The 7-days journey begins in the car-free village of Wengen. Already on the train ride there you will experience Switzerland from a very special perspective. The following days you’ll explore the wonderful region on foot, by car or by train. From Wengen you reach Grindelwald over Kleine Scheidegg and later your journey continues across Grosse Scheidegg to Rosenlaui.
The visit of the highest confectionery of Europe, the alpine gardens with over 600 species of plants on Schynige Platte and a tour to the over 100 years old saw at the Black Forest-Alps are just a few highlights on your journey through the beautiful Bernese Oberland. The last stage takes you to Meiringen discovering the Reichenbach Falls on the traces of Sherlock Holmes.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN WENGEN
The countryside of Switzerland does make the trip to Wengen an experience. In the afternoon you have time to explore the mountain village of Wengen on your own.
Enjoy culinary highlights in the Hotel Schönegg in the evening.
DAY 2: THE "CHAMOIS TRAIL" - WENGEN-MÄNNLICHEN-WENGEN
It is a hiking trail through a rugged landscape, taking you into the realm of Chamois. Return to Wengen by cable car.
DAY 3: WENGEN - KLEINE SCHEIDEGG - EIGERG GLACIER - GRINDELWALD
Your day starts with a hike from Wengen to Wengernalp whilst enjoying the views of the beautiful mountain scenery of the Lauterbrunnen valley. You reach Kleine Scheidegg by train, where the hike up to Eiger Glacier (with the highest-chocolate confectionery in Europe) starts. On your way you visit the "Chilchli" - an old transformer station of the Jungfrau Railways, where the history of the Eiger is explained and the old Mittelegi Hut with an exhibition of mountaineering equipment from different eras.
The train takes you to Grindelwald, where you stay at the Romantik Hotel Schweizerhof.
DAY 4: NELLENBALM - MARBLE QUARRY - WETTERHORN CABLE
The route takes you along the former runway of the ice, a remnant of the Grindelwald ice export times, to Nellenbalm at the Lower Grindelwald Glacier. From pre-Reformation times until the end of the 16th century there was the Chapel of St. Petronella. It served as a starting point for those passing over the Mönchsjoch to the Fiescher valley in Valais. At the end of the trek, naturally there also was a Petronelle chapel. Continuing your walk you will pass the marble quarry (active mining 1751-1760 and 1890-1903) and the gondola of the Wetterhorn cable, which was the first Swiss cable car registered for passenger transport.
DAY 5: SCHYNIGE PLATTE - FIRST
You will arrive at Wilderswil by train, where the nostalgic cog railway takes you up to Schynige Platte. After visiting the alpine gardens with more than 600 plant species of Switzerland, one of the finest panoramic hikes is your way back to Grindelwald.
DAY 6: GROSSE SCHEIDEGG - SCHWARZWALDALP (BLACK FOREST ALP) - ROSENLAUI
Hiking the "romantic trail" from Grosse Scheidegg to Rosenlaui gorge you can visit the centennial saw close to Schwarzwaldalp and Rosenlaui gorge at the end of your day.
Tonight the nostalgic Hotel Rosenlaui will be your home.
TAG 7: AARE-GORGE- SCHERLOCK HOLMES MUSEUM - REICHENBACH FALLS
After visiting the Aare gorge in the morning, take the narrow-gauge train to Meiringen. Here you can visit the Sherlock Holmes Museum; following his footsteps, you may want to finish your trip at the world famous Reichenbach Falls.
